Aged Wood Fang Tribe Mask

This elongated-face mask originates from the Fang people of Gabon and is estimated to date back to the 1970s, showcasing a strong patina juxtaposed with the refined minimal look of traditional Fang artistry. Carved from wood with a serene, abstract face and narrow form, this mask embodies the spiritual power and ancestral reverence of Fang culture. Historically, Fang masks were used in religious rites, particularly during ceremonies honoring ancestors. Their distinctive long features and almond-shaped eyes are thought to symbolize watchfulness and wisdom. This piece comes mounted on a newly made custom iron stand for a modern display—yet can also be detached and mounted on a wall for a more traditional presentation. One of one.
